Micmacs

Micmacs is a quirky French fantasy film. The full name of the film is Micmacs à tire-larigot which translates as 'non-stop shenanigans’; this is a good description of what happens. Micmacs was written and directed by the acclaimed Jean-Pierre Jeunet who has also brought to the world Amelie, Delicatessen and City of Lost Children.

If you a have liked his previous work then this newest offering from Jean-Pierre Jeunet will be enjoyable. The film is visually stunning and is full of the bizarre moments which brought Delicatessen to life. The ensemble cast includes Dany Boon (Bazil), Jean-Pierre Marielle (Placard), Dominique Pinon (Fracasse), André Dussollier (Nicolas Thibault De Fenouillet), Julie Ferrier (La Môme Caoutchouc ), Yolande Moreau (Tambouille) and all give excellent performances.

The story follows the life of Bazil who has been orphaned when his father is killed by a roadside bomb. He is struggling to make a life for himself when he is accidentally shot in the head by a stray bullet from a drive by shooting. When Bazil comes out of hospital with no money and no job and the bullet still lodged in his skull he is befriended Placard an ex con. Placard takes him to an underground lair where he and his friends exist together.

When Bazil finds out that he can take revenge on the arms dealers who have ruined his life his friends are there to help him with hilarious consequences.
