Poseidon

Poseidon is a classic disaster film. It is loosely based on the original film The Poseidon Adventure and the book of the same name by Paul Gallico written in 1969. The film stars Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Jacinda Barrett and Richard Dreyfus and was directed by Wolfgang Petersen.

Initially Poseidon did not do so well with the critics, however, the film quickly gained popularity and was commended for its realistic use of CGI in the capsizing scenes and was nominated for the Academy Award for Visual Effects.

Audiences were decidedly split on the issue of whether this remake was as good as the original or even worth a look in its own right; this often happens in this sort of situation. However, on the plus side everyone agreed that the CGI was fantastic and really helped save the film.

Like the film The Poseidon Adventure the film's set designers drew inspiration for some of the spaces aboard the fictional Poseidon from rooms aboard the RMS Queen Mary 2.

A luxury liner is packed to the gills with celebrating party goers when it encounters a freak storm wave that engulfs the ship and tips it upside down. A handful of survivors are forced to climb through the ship encountering hazards and corpses along the way. Can they make it out in time to be rescued?
