Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is an all action superhero movie. This is the sequel to the 2002 film and was again directed by Sam Raimi. Tobey Maguire reprises his role as Peter Parker Spider-Man’s alter ego, also returning are Kirsten Dunst, James Franco and Rosemary Harris. The addition of Alfred Molina as Doc Ock brings the film to life.

Despite being a sequel the film was a big success at the box office. Audiences were again amazed with the CGI which allowed Spider-Man to swoop through the skies and you cannot tell which is real and which is animated. Viewers have been impressed with Maguire’s portrayal of Parker as a nerdy kid who has the same problems as everyone else. The Doc Ock character is visually dynamic and an ultimately tragic figure that like so many villains have a back story that goes some way to explaining their behaviour.

The story continues to explore Peter and Mary Jane’s tortured relationship; he wants to keep a distance as associating with him will bring her into danger. Meanwhile Doctor Octavius is experimenting with a new idea to fuse the human brain with technology which is impervious to heat and magnetism. The experiment goes wrong and Octavius is permanently fused to the robotic arms which have some artificial intelligence. This intelligence twists the mind of Octavius into becoming an archetypal evil guy who then kidnaps Mary Jane to draw Spider-man into a trap.
