St Trinian’s (2009)

13:37 Wed 30th Jun 2010 |

St Trinian’s is a fictional anarchic school for uncontrollable girls. With a star studded cast including Rupert Everett, Colin Firth and David Tennant the new films are generating a huge following. In the films the school becomes embroiled in various shady enterprises, thanks mainly to Flash, and, as a result, is always threatened with closure by the Ministry.

St Trinian’s school is the antithesis of the Enid Blyton type posh girls' boarding school; its pupils are wicked and often well-armed, and mayhem is rife.

The first of the new generation of films stars Rupert Everett (Camilla Fritton/Carnaby Fritton) as the head mistress of the school, Russell Brand as Flash Harry a character originally played by George Cole. Also in the film are Colin Firth as the Education Minister Geoffrey Thwaites and Tallulah Riley as Annabelle Fritton. The plot centres on the theft of a valuable painting in order to fund the school and prevent its closure.

The second film sees Rupert Everett as well as Colin Firth reprise their roles. In addition, David Tennant appears as Lord Pomfrey who is looking for his family's buried treasure and enlists the school girls to help, for a fee of course.

Although not for everyone the popularity of the St Trinian’s series has endured for more than fifty years, the first film being released in 1954.
