The Notebook

13:04 Mon 28th Jun 2010 |

The Notebook is a romantic drama film. Based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks the film is directed by Nick Cassavetes. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as a young couple who fall in love during the early 1940s. James Garner and Gena Rowlands also star in this tear jerker.

Audiences loved this film. Not only were the two main characters believable as a young couple falling in love but also the way they had to deal with prejudice of their families. The gentle story is fairly straightforward but the twist at the end will move all but the hardest of hearts.

Message in a Bottle and A Walk to Remember were also based on Sparks novels, that were also received well by audiences with a penchant for romantic drama with a twist.

The story is narrated by an old man called Noah (James Garner) and he is telling it to an old woman who is obviously in the later stages of dementia. He is reading the story which has been written in the notebook of the title and charts the love affair of a young couple during the time of the Second World War. It tells of how they overcome the usual types of obstacles to find happiness.
