What excitement can we expect from this year's Baftas

A.��Well, Anne Robinson's Weakest Link� is head to head with Chris Tarrant for the title of Best Entertainment Series at the Bafta television awards. They face stiff competition from Have I Got News or You and Channel 4's So Graham Norton.

Q.� What are the other nominations

A.� A few familar and not so new faces:

  • Dame Judi Dench has been nominated for the best actress category for her performance in Last of the Blonde Bombshells, along with Geraldine James for her role in The Sins, At Home with the Braithwaites' Amanda Redman, Cold Feet's Fay Ripley and Fat Friends' Alison Steadman
  • �In the best actor category, Michael Gambon secured a nomination for Longtitude, as have Pete Postlethwaite for The Sins, Ken Stott for The Vice and Steven Mackintosh for his performance in Care
  • For the best comedy performance category there are nominations for Dawn French for Vicar of Dibley, Kathy Burke for Gimme Gimme Gimme, Caroline Aherne for The Royle Family and Sasha Baron Cohen's Ali G
  • EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and Emmerdale have all been nominated for the best soap award
  • Nominees for the Richard Dimbleby award for the Best presenter are Michael Parkinson for his chat show, David Attenborough for State of the Planet, Jeremy Paxman for Newsnight and Louis Theroux for Weird Weekends
  • Situation Comedy nominations include Blackadder - Back and Forth, Black Books, One Foot in The Grave and The Royle Family
  • A new innovation award this year sees nominees for Big Brother, Castaway 2000, Nice Girl and Storm Damage up against each other
  • The factual series category nominees are Britain at War in Colour, Castaway 2000, Fifteen and Horizon

Q.� When are the awards

A.� The Bafta award ceremony will be hosted by Angus Deayton on 13 May, at an event in London, sponsored by the Radio Times, broadcast the same evening.
