Car worse than when it went into garage ....
9 Answers
Hi, I have taken my car (Laguna), to my garage for a diesel injector that was leaking on one of cylinders. They suggested that the other 3 should be replaced also. Apparently they were all stuck in place from all of the mess that had leaked out of the first one, and they couldnt get them out initially. Now they have managed to get the remaining 3 out, and have tried various things to put new ones in.
Now , the first one that was originally leaking is ok, and the remaining 3 are all leaking. They have said it will cos upwards of 200 to strip it down, and then whatever else for parts etc, and could cost 500-700 in the end.
I have just paid 300 to get various bits done for the MOT!! Car is 52 Reg, with 118000 on the clock. Not sure whether to scrap it or not any suggestions ?? Also, I am now struggling to get it out of the garage as it drove there, but now wont drive out!!
Thanks

It is an independant mechanics, who are usually pretty reliable and honest. I think there may have been an issue to begin with and now its been taken apart it is worse, but I am not sure. I have only had the car since october, (paid 2k for it) and to be honest think it was a bad one to begin with , although i have done around 25k miles in it so far.
My advice would be, see /speak to the owners of the garage & state what was said to you, regards the removal / replacement of the Injector seals, explain one was leaking & the cost you had been quoted for replacing the 4, I have a feeling they have stripped the threads on the other 3 injectors! did you have any witnesses when you had the verbal Quote? I't does not matter how many miles you have done since you acquired the car, the car was leaking one Injector when it went in & now leaking 3, the other issue could be that the threads on the 4 had been crossed previous to you byeing the car but that should have been noted when the first injector had been removed, that is, if they had a job to remove it they should have checked the thread of the injector & if found to be crossed told you.
The threads get rusted/carboned up .. nothing to do with cross-threading or what's been leaking over them .. that can't get into the threads past the seat.
This can be an issue .. and popular with coated threads with cast iron heads, and also alloys .. where the threads corrode with dampness.
You really need to know what damage caused to threads and/or seat .. thread plucking or stripping, etc. Usually a thread chaser can clean up fine.
