Mercedes went through a period where they produced cars of lower quality than they had previously produced. In the years 2000 onwards, they made the commitment to improve their quality. Does anyone know when they started to do this please?

The W210 was the stinker and afaik things improved with the W211 -so 2002 seems Year Zero.
And NO despite what people may tell you , Chrysler did not put a gun to Mercs' head and forced cheapness on them
Bear in mind any one selling a Merc built during their cost cutting years will still laughably claim it "the last of proper built mercs" !

Thanks Tali, I thought improved quality came in around 2007, but as u infer, the 90's were a bad period.
I had the misfortune of sharing my life with a 2001 C200 Kompressor for a wee while in the early noughties. Nowt but myther. I would rather have had a Morris Marina it was that bad.

If it was made between 1995 and 2007 I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
I had the misfortune to own a ml270cdi. Biggest load of rubbish I could have bought.

What a coincidence. As we speak, my C220 07 failed to start yesterday. AA came out and told me it is a known problem. Ignition sensor failure cannot read key. Its now at main dealer.
