Air bags, crumple zones, ABS brakes, much improved headrests to help stop whiplash injury, anti submarining seats. And I'm sure there's more.

Active headrests. Some berk drove into the back of me in my Vectra at the lights. The active headrests meant that the only injury I had was a very slight bruise from my seatbelt. Neck was as right as ninepence.

Actually, no that must be the worst invention ever. Cost me a few grand in potential injury compensation.
