My car has broken ans can`t be mended..had renewed car Insurance last month will they allow me to cancel it,I pay monthly by direct debit.

I pay annually and it was the first thing I asked before I paid up. You will have to make sure it's SORN first.
You may find that there will be a fee though.
It depends on the terms. Hopefully a cancellation will be allowed but there may be a cancellation fee though they may take another payment first (or you may owe money if you cancel the DD) depending on how they work out the payments
You could arrange to keep your insurance active by arranging to pay a small amount each month, to be agreed with them. It's much cheaper than starting again when you get another car
They didn't mention that to me but I was charged £15 to to change the car on my policy.

Thanks everyone very helpful.
How long will it take to repair the car? do not jump to cancel in case the car can be back on the road within a month.
Maybe just suspend the policy rather than cancel it.
