Just had a new one fitted to my E91, failed due to water damage. £300 fitted, now BMW garage is saying its £189 to program the transponder to my car. This was not mentioned when I bought the part, and the unit obviously is useless without it being programmed.

I think this is totally outrageous considering how much the unit cost for what is probably a 5 minute job. Has anyone had a similar experience?

With respect Shizit, did you go straight to the dealer? you must have known you would pay top money, regards the water damage, contact your insurance or check your policy to see it will cover this issue. check you local Yellow Pages to see if there anyone in your area that could do the job for you.
In this link they say that they will give you free advise on getting a key reprogrammed to your car without going to a mainstealer, might be worth giving them a ring.
