I bought the model with GPS because I like gimmicks. I also bought the model with included memory which is a waste of time - memory cards are much better as they hold more data and it's easier to get the data into your computer. As a rough guide a 32GB memory card will record for about 6 hours at full HD - you can set it to over-write, thus always retaining the last 6 hour's of video, or stop recording.

Thanks everyone, gone with bhg481 as well as those who suggested e prance. I think sometimes just having a dash cam makes other driver a bit more cautious around you. I still wanted to have footage that I could use if needed though, I see some very dodgy driving on my way into Manchester every day, might even get some laughs too.
Thanks once again everyone, much appreciated

I recommend this free software for you, Shiznit.

It's a Russian site which I found from reading reviews on Amazon but it seems perfectly safe. The software is far better than the package that comes with the Eprance. You can vary the playback speed and, if you have several journeys on a card, it will group them for you. For example, the other day we went to Bristol, stayed there for a couple of hours and bought fuel on the return journey. It recognised that as 2 trips, assuming the fuel stop was part of the return journey and not a separate trip. It also calculated the miles travelled for each journey and the time it took (bearing in mind I bought the model with GPS).
This software will work with other makes of dashcam too.

I did some further research after being inspired by this thread and have just bought a Nextbase 402G. It is a clone of the DOD LS430W which is renowned for its high image quality, particularly in low light levels. It comes with GPS and all the usual features of a fairly high up dashcam.
It scored highly in Which and I'm looking forward to using it for the first time tomorrow. Will report back my findings.
