Golf Diesel Overheating
I have a 2015 golf diesel 1600. After short journeys of about 5 miles the engine of my golf sometimes runs very hot and the radiator fan cuts in but the temp. gauge shows normal.Could it be a sticking thermostat.

This is perfectly normal and happens on many cars as turning off the engine stops the water circulating, the hot water migrates to the top of the engine and the fan is triggered - again, nothing to worry about. Thermostats normally fail in the "open " position, so the car runs cold. If it did happen to stick closed the engine would boil and the fan running would have no effect since the water would not be circulating through the radiator.
