Bent valves are the usual thing to happen if a cam belt breaks.

you wont know till you pull the engine cylinger head

it might be cheaper to buy a second hand engine - but fit a new belt first to the replacement engine before fitting
when a cambelt breaks some valves will be open and some shut, they will stay in this position as the camshaft isn't turning. unfortunately the crankshaft still is turning so pistons will fly up and hammer into the valves that are open, destroying your engine. generally a broken camshaft = new engine needed, and for most cars, new engine needed = write off.
