03-reg 1.2litre corsa headlights not working

when i turn on the lights switch the main headlights do not come on although the side lights work fine

is this when the ignition is on and the engine running ,a lot of cars now dont have headlights working if its stood with ignition off,just the sidelights

My corsa ('02) headligths work even if the ignition key is removed .
Check the fuses in the fuse box/junction box under the bonnet - although I have looked in the haynes manual - i cant find reference to what number the fuse is - I would suspect there is a realy fiitted and it is not working.

Sorry to point out the obvious, but the side lights and main headlights run off different bulbs. Have you checked whether both main bulbs have blown?

The main headlight bulbs are in twist and remove covers, although removing the spent bulb may need leverage. The side lights sit next to the main headlight cover apparently according to Mr Haynes, I haven't had to change those ones yet on my Corsa.

thanks for the help folks,whilst initially the headlamp bulb elements appeared intact ,once removed and continuity tested they had both failed.So it just proves a visual inspection can sometimes not be sufficient.
