Ok don't laugh but I have a rover metro which has just stopped working the other morning. When I turn the key all I hear is a clicking noise and that is it. Some one suggested it maybe a stuck gear, so I tried the old move back and fourth and also take the handbrake off etc and try bump start, but still nothing. Any one any ideas? and if so, is this a big job i.e with money? Only cost 500 and so far spent 700 on repairs so reluctant to just scrap it

Seems like you just need a new battery or a good charging up.

Not dear.
ttry this. switch your headlights on & get someboby to watch them while you try to start the car,
if they go very dim either do as Toureman says .check battery & charge or renew if required.
possible starter motor prob.
If it is a fast clicking noise when you turn the engine - it is almost certainly the battery being under charged ot faulty

Checked battery and all is fine with that, so do you think it could be the starter motor?
I say its the starter motor like david1702198

If you can tap the starter motor with a hammer or rock the car back and forward this could help to get the starter going it might have gone or got stuck
If you are sure the battery is ok - then the starter motor/starter solenoid is faulty.
following on from above if u cross the solinode pins(1 will be black 1 will be white) with a screw driver and motor turns its devo the startre-solinode
sorry one will be black one will be red
