Oil Pressure Warning Light

The oil pressire warning light comes on when I switch the electrics on on my Ford KA 1.3. When the engine is started the light goes out. I've checked oil levels and they are fine. The car guide only advises on what to do if this light comes on during a journey.
What does it mean and what should I do?????
