Does it make a difference what configuration of tyres you put on car axles?

yes,tyres on the same axle must be of the same size.
and dont mix crossply and radials on the same axle and preferably the same make.

Does it matter on which axle I put the radial/ crossply tyres. Front or rear?
I think the old advice used to be Radials on the rear Crossply to the front.
Was just wondering if even croo-splys are still available ?
