Speedometer going loopy!

My speedometer on my Ford Focus has started to have a mind of its own! It will be fine one minute then start spinning at speeds not at all related to what I am going (almost 110mph whilst I was nearly stationary at one point!) then it will settle and return to normal - also the radio volume will go up and down when this happens! Is this a loose connection or do I have a ghost in my engine!? Thanks

Sounds like a speed sensor is on its way out - as for the radio ??

check the wiring plug to the alternator for any signs of arcing across wires
