Worrying Engine beeping noise VW Golf 98
2 Answers
It started with a slight sqeaking noise for the first couple of weeks, gradually getting louder and prolonged. It now sounds like a constant beeping noise which varies in frequency when breaking or accellerating.
The noise is only there when the engine is running. If the bonnet is lifted its hard to determine the exact source of the noise. It is very unpleasant to hear.
The car is 1998 R reg VW Golf 1.6.
No warning lights or symbols light up on the dash. Engine coolant, oil etc are all at the correct levels.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Therefore your engine mountings are worn, hence the gradual increase in noise over time as the rubber has either split or perrished. Try physically moving the engine yourself , rock it backwards and forwards( with the engine off ) The engine should be solidly fixed. If it moves then it's your mountings.
