Mazda 323 2.0 Sport Rust

I have a 2003 Mazda 323 2.0 Sport which has begun to rust at the front wheel arches. I have contacted Mazda and they have said it is a recognised concern and that I should bring it to them to get photographs of it.

I'm just wondering if any1 else has this problem and do you think I should pursue a claim or just try and fix it myself?
