Metro 1.4 k reg problems

Hi, i have the above car and have a recurring problem. Most of the time it runs fine then all of a sudden it will not start up off the key. The alternator has been checked and is fine. When it happens the car wants to start but does not and make a sort of clicking noise ?? Could it be the starter motor?? It just seems to lack a big enough surge. But then if i tried to start it say 2 hours later , it will go off the key. Truly bizarre!! I had put a new battery on it as well.

I'm sure you will get a more definitive answer, but my guess is that it will be the starter motor.

I had a similar problem some years ago on a Fiesta and it turned out to be a 'flat' on the commutator in the starter. When the 'flat' comes to rest beneath one of the brushes there isn't enough power created to operate the starter when you next come to use it. A good auto electrician will be able to teast it for you. Good luck.
