corsa engine won't switch off
6 Answers
1993 corsa 1200cc , the engine will not stop running even with the key out . I suspected the ignition switch to be at fault, but i,ve pulled the plug off the ignition switch and it still runs! When you stall the car the ignition is on at all times until you disconect the battery, re connect and ignition goes off . Any ideas before i dive in . cheers Richard

Does it run normally, EG. You can drive the car?
Or does it just keep firing, but eratically?
If it's the latter then you have Pre-Ignition. This is caused by glowing Deposits in your engine, igniting fuel in the same way as your spark plugs.
And can only be cured with an engine de-coke.
This trouble is often caused by lots of short journeys, or using lead-free petrol in a vehicle not designed to run on it.

Thanks for the help guys but problem solved !
The car is fitted with an 'Auto Watch' touchkey immobiliser which was not clicking off (relay)when the power supply was disconected (ign off) . the fault inside the unit was slight corroion on the printed circuit board which i have managed to clean and re solder a couple of terminals.
The car now switches off lovely!!
cheers
