Vauxhall Astra Engine Safe Mode

My Astra 1.6 seems very sluggish to accelerate, especially at the top end of each gear. Someone has just driven it and said they think the engine has gone into 'safe mode'. Can anyone explain this to me please?

3ight8ball...its just goes to show you know completely sweet FA about cars,a lot of cars are fitted with a safe/limp mode facility in the ECU which can prevent excessive damage to a cars engine.

Wilson100, safe or limp mode as its called comes into play if you have any major probs with the engine,the ecu unit will kick into that mode preventing you doing any more damage to the car,restricting your speed,engine revs etc,get it looked at asap,or read your handbook,which will explain it in more detail.

thats ok,its most probably a minor fault,but it needs to be put on their computer to find the fault.if its not that,then they will find the problem.

the valves are controlled hydraulically by lifters and buckets on the vauxhall ecotec engines. mercedes design their cars to go into limp home mode if you dont get the car serviced once the inspection light comes on!!!
