Does anyone know what a "reasonable" mpg figure for the above vehicle is please?

I've just worked mine out and it's shocked me!

Go on SHOCK ME - is it worse than the 15MPG on my mondeo 2.0 i auto?????????
Or my overall 18MPG average over 16 years on cars with an average of only 1800cc ?????
Question Author
22mpg which is no better than a 535i!

I was expecting somewhere around 25-30
Question Author
I meant to say "no better than the 535i I used to have"!

Maybe your 535 was a freakisly economical?
Question Author
tali1 - I had 2 x 535i and they both did roughly the same mpg.

Maybe I need to get my engine set-up checked?
SurreyGuy was 535s and your 525 -auto or manuals?

I spoke to a mechanic that I know yesterday and he said that I may have a defective lambda probe!
If there is an engine fault -then you would know by some noticeable fault like erratic /lumpy idle, acceleration problems etc
My car guzzles fuel but the engine is running A1 100%perfect
Question Author
The mechanic I spoke to said that the only noticeable symptom of a lambda probe fault is excessive fuel consumption - I trust him implicitly.
Been told MOT emission test readings will show if lamda is faulty
let us know how you get along
Question Author
Ah, ok.

I bought the car last month with a 12-month MOT on it. No mention of the lambda fault.
My lambda has been checked recently and it is correct as are emissions
Question Author
Well gave the car to my mechanic mate last week. He ran it thru the diagnostics and found.....................NOTHING WRONG! He reckons it might be the Vanos unit, but that could only be proven by spending mega money!

I've re-calculated my mpg and it's DEFINITELY 21-22mpg!

As a last resort, he has suggested using an injector cleaner when my tank is low (so as the cleaner-to-fuel ratio is high).
