On my car I worked it out. When the light came on I filled the tank right up , noted how many litres I put in then found out the tank's capacity in the handbook. Subtract one figure from the other that's how many litres you will have till the tank is dry. Now you will need to know (or work out ) the mpg of your car. You can now find the range of the car once the light comes on.
