Car Dealerships

I have contacted my local Vauxhall garage after seeing cars advertised in the local paper.
I am looking for a Vauxhall Astra Estate Design 1.6 petrol.
What they are offering is something I have not come accross before and wondered if anyone else 'in the know' had.
They have recently purchased 200 Vauxhalls from the Central Vauxhall place. The cars are simply a list and are not on site. They are slightly cheaper than the other 2007 priced vehicles I have been looking at. If I am interested in one model in particular on the list, they take 250 deposit today, get the car in on site and I then take it from there. The deposit is refundable if the vehicle is 'not how it has been described'. It has been described to me as a standard spec vehicle in good condition with typically 10-15k on the clock.
Is this dodgy or normal practice?!?
