What could be causing the white paste on the filler cap and neck? It has been like that for a few years but it is not a blown head gasket. Had the engine tested and have never had a water loss but just wondering what could be the cause and cure! Thank you

This may be just condensation building up.
Hi, I would give the unit a complete service including dropping the oil flushing the systerm, take off the rocker cover & clean out.
It's a Vauxhall, isn't it?

Hi. Thanks for answers so far. Yes it's a Vauxhall, a 1996 Astra. If it's condensation what can I do to prevent it? Thanks everyone.
How did I guess?

Probably your thermostat needs replacing, and the engine is overcooling.
