whats wrong with it???

Please help, my car is ill! After driving for about ten miles it will not go any faster than 20mph no matter how hard I press the accelorator or what gear I have it in. In neutral it shudders really badly and sometimes there is a funny smell. Its a Renault Megane Coupe.

As a start it may be worth checking that all the plug leads are firmly connected both ends. Misfiring will cause a smell of fuel ( Funny smell')

I would suggest the problem is an ignition fault, usually at least one coil not working.
They cost about �25 each.

What car? how long has the clutch been in? does it REV UP on sloops? if it does I'm afraid its the clutch.

My wife's polo did this and it was an ignition coil pack.. cost about �25 to repair.
