Just had my 8 year old golf tdi ,52 k on the clock mot'ed Garage said when they checked the exhaust gas on high revs it wouldn't slow down and stayed on full speed
even with the key out
I don't know for how long or how they stopped it but
now ive got a bill fo �600+labour for the turbo thats been replaced but they tell me its still got a rattle and it could have damaged the pistons and valves , . they also suggested that because I don't drive it fast enough the slight oil that gets through the turbo builds up in the cooler' ,they drained a half point out of it when changing the turbo , is this possible for all these things to happen

Unfortunately, this can happen with a build-up of oil from a failed turbo seal. You need to carefully check all servicing history.
On a runaway engine like this, it's almost impossible to stop them.
Most likely on the rattle is big end shells. But they are correct, outside chance it is pistons.

Any mechanic will know how to stop a runaway engine fast to avoid expensive repairs.
Select high gear say 3 up wards apply park brake and foot brake.
did the garage top up your engine oil and over fill ?
