Ive recently passed my test and have got a clio. It seemed in a good condition but I took it into a garage to have it checked over and they changed the brake pads. It was fine for several weeks but 3 or 4 times recently the brake feels like theres a brick under it when I press it ands doesnt respond at all but if I press it again seconds later its fine. This scared the life out of me but thankfully I wasnt going too fast at the time and was able to slow down safely. I took it to the garage and they took it for a test drive and the same thing happened whilst they were driving. They put it on some machine and said I needed a new sensor. I had the work done and drove the car for a couple of days with no problem until today when it happened again. Before I pay more money which I dont have (being a student) any ideas of what may be causing this?

Claire hi
You really need to take back and let them take another look and fix.
Diagnostic plug-in will store, and make available the stored faults/fault codes so they should be able to tell what's going on.
If they renewed an abs sensor the faulty one would not cause the brakes to not work,

Take it back to have it repaired properly.
Hi Claire, there are Garages that open the brake fluid bleed valve to release brake pad pressure to remove them, but this can be done without what I have mentioned, it sounds from what you have said that there is air in the braking system that requires bleeding, it's the garage's job to sort out the problem I take it the brakes where right apart from them getting changed? this sensor to me sounds like a money making thing from a female ( Do not be offended by that statement) also on a point of new brake pads when I change pads I always take the car out to Bed the brakes in but I doubt they will have done that, take the car back & explain your problem but DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY the problem lies with them.
Look ... When you get air in the brake lines, you get a spongy pedal with a lot of travel, or it goes straight to the floor easily. You do not get a pedal like a brick symptom.
There is probably a fault within the ABS unit. I feel for Claire because these are expensive. She would have to get a 2nd hand one.
Go back with it Claire.
