Rain x windscreen cleaner, does it work?.....auto express say's it can leave a smear on the windscreen when you use your wiper's,but does that not defeat the purpose of using it, it's only £6 but to be honest i use mr muscle window and glass cleaner on my windscreen and wipers and find that it works for about a week or so before needing cleaning again....i understand the water displacement properties of rain x but if it does smear whats the point?....thanks.

I tried it on my windscreen and it did smear. For side windows, mirrors and headlights its first class though, water does bead and run off.

4 of the 7 reviewers here award it 5 stars (out of 5), yet two of the others don't even think that it's worth one star!

(I just keep a couple of bottles of supermarket 'value' vinegar in the boot of my car, for degreasing the windscreen - inside and out - when needed. It makes the car smell like a chip shop but it does the job!).

I have used it for years, it works great if your going over 40mph, the faster you go and the heavier the rain the better it works, the rain flies up the windscreen leaving it clear, one application lasts me for about 3 months and I have never had any smear on the windscreen, just the opposite.

I have driven from London to Cornwall in heavy rain and just used the wipers a couple of times to clean the windscreen.

To apply it you must follow the directions on the bottle, if you don't it won't work!

Would not be without it.
It works well at dispersing rain at speed, but on a cold dewey morning it is maddening.

Any window or mirror treated gets covered in a fine layer of tiny water droplets, and look like frosted glass. As fast as you clearthem, they fog up again.
Maybe you're not following the directions on the bottle Hopkirk. :)
I think in my experience, don't apply it to anything other than the windscreen, which can be cleared easily with the wipers.

Thanks guys,I think for the type of driving i do (mostly low speed urban) that i would not get the full benifit of the properties of rainx,as i said i use mr muscle and find this is very good, especially on the wipers(it removes a lot of muck) but i do think a good quality windscreen wash makes a difference as well as changing the wipers every six months or so.......thanks again.
