Scrap Car Pick Up Agents

Hi all,

Has anyone had any dealings with the companies you see all over the internet advertising to collect your car for free and scrap it within the law.

I have a S Reg Focus that is beyond economical repair and i just want rid of it, however I dont want to get caught out by one of the cowboys you hear of and end up with fines when you think you are doing the right thing.

Any sensible advice would be most appreciated.

Unlikely ... they'll probably charge you between £50 and £100 to take it away.

last couple of cars I scrapped they paid me - genuine companies - the picked them up on a low loader

I have looked into ringing a local scrapper, but as I asked are there any checks that you can do to ensure the company is licensed to dispose of the waste?

Have a look for cars for cash in your local area, I scrapped my Renault last week, they came and collected it and gave me £70.

Even the notorious "webuyanycar.com" will give you 50 notes

A local scrap dealer WILL take it .. because they know it will be worth over a hundred quid weighed in. Focus around £140-60 at the moment.
If they give you over 50 quid, take it.

It will take them a fair amount of work to get it on the road Hopkirk, wear and tear plus some local youths having some fun one night made it a bit of a mess!!

HH If you fill out all the relevant paperwork there should never be a legal come back on you.

You must transfer ownership to the scrapper.

Check their paperwork - I was amazed in my stint in planning enforcement just how many of these cowboys dump them anywhere.... but its you the Council come after :(

list it on ebay for £100 buy it now spares or repair. Be surprised if it does not go!!!!

Check yellow pages in your area. Ask around for local knowledge. Keep your eyes open for actual scrapyards and contact them.

Take it to a lay by, and then set fire to it. Then tell your insurers it was stolen and claim on the insurance for fire.

I scrapped mine and got £100 , look for reputable scrappage firm

have scrapped a few cars in my time but have also written to the DVLA to say that I'm no longer the legal owner as "xxx" took the vehicle away. No problems so far

Katie here from webuyanycar.com. Just to let you know are transaction fee only applies to valuations of £170 or over. When you sell the car you should be given the yellow slip from the V5 document which you need to send to the DVLA to inform them that you are no longer the registered owner of the car.
