Current pride and joy at sunny-dave towers is my Honda XL1000 Varadero - mainly for summer touring (although it does get the odd outing on sunny winter days) - North Wales & the Peak District are my favourite haunts.

Hoping for a trip to the continent next year - applications for the pillion seat opening soon :=)

Me !!!!!!!
I LOVE the Varadero.

Big, sexy, comfy, loads of room to add luggage.

I'm not sure if I could touch the ground on one, though.

I have a Fazer, which I hate. I was swapping it for a Transalp this summer, but changed my mind at the last minute.

oooh :)

You got your own bike at the moment?
Question Author
Yep the Vara is great -

big (at 6ft 2in I can just touch the ground!)

runs all day (and you can actually ride it all day too, unlike some 'sports bikes' which cripple you after a couple of hours)

only got a box on for day-to-day, but going looking for luggage at the NEC bike show in a couple of weeks time
The Fazer was a mistake.

I don't feel safe on it.

I want something more sitty uppy.

But I do love going along the seafront when all the bikers are down here. It's really sexy.

I learnt to ride about four years ago. I did the Direct Access Scheme.

Matlock Bath on a Sunday morning is the same - endless rows of big bikes - pulse racing stuff - makes you glad to be alive :)
I've done the Bike Show. We stayed at the hotel at the NEC, the Metropole or Hilton, or something. I went up in my MG. It's a bit too far on a bike from here.

About 10 miles for me - but I tend to go on the train - enables the lunchtime pint or three ;=)
I love the sound of loads of big bikes, all roaring past together. The growlong sound gets right into your stomach. But they have to be big, loud bikes. Mine is a bit crap. It's an FZ600. It's too buzzy and revvy.
I'm just going to meet a pal for a quick G and T.

Let's chat bikes later, if you're still around.

I keep getting seduced into looking at all sorts of exotica - had a spin on a Kwak ZZR1400 a while ago - scared me s**tless - toooo much power and rubbish visibility in front and behind.

Didn't sound right either - sort of smoothy rather than growly (possibly because I was feather bedding it).

Transalps are good - my mate had one for a long while - nice riding position and not too 'tall' -although at 5ft 3in he did reckon that every time he stopped he had to decide which side to fall off ;)

Harley Davidson Fatboy Special ad is getting the adrenal glands working overtime, unfortunately I'm a bit old in the tooth now & have to stick to the car but a guy can dream.

JJ- I have been to your area (Brighton?) at the rideouts when it don't rain,
