Probably a daft question, but if a motorcycle has a puncture when being ridden out and about, on the motorway or in the country forexample, is it practical to try to repair the puncture at the roadside or is the AA/RAC called instead? Whay would most motorcyclists do?

The AA will attend if you have cover. I also carry Tyreweld for temporary repairs when abroad and at home in England, It saves waiting to be towed back as the AA will not repair. They take you home or to a garage of your choice. Tyreweld will get you to a garage.
My bikers carry an aerosol puncture outfit that squirts into the tyre & seals a small puncture. Anything bigger & I get hauled out to the rescue.

No worries, Happy and safe biking : )
Incidentally, I've got a campaign with my council to fill in pot holes. The council say they NEED to be told where the pot holes are to work on them. Always inform by email, they are then bound to repair them before there's an accident.
You can repair it yourself if you have the right tools. Most motorcyclists would just repair the puncture and be on their way. However, it is important to later change the tire if it is tubeless because it might have been damaged by the rim. In addition, having a patched tube may cause problems in future.
