Train Set

My OH is building a train set, it's the smallest gauge Hornby do. He's rearranged the study to accommodate a board the size he wants, just needs to screw the legs on.

Over recent weeks, every time we do an Amazon order he's bought a bit more..engines, carriages, track, houses, paint, etc.

He's totally absorbed in it which I'm really pleased about even though it bores me to tears.

Any other model train enthusiasts here?

No, but I can see the appeal. I saw one that was part of a big Christmas display complete with ski lifts, etc., in a large garden centre I visited a few months ago and they are a joy to watch.

Good for Mr V. At least it opens up the flood gates when present buying comes round: Station Master's hat, rolling stock etc.

The joy will be in finding the specialist shop, hopefully local, where such goodies abound. Making some of the models from scratch if possible. Good thing is he has chosen the smallest layout. You can still enjoy the garden with canine pal this summer...😏

We have a train set in the loft.  My husband built it many years ago with our son.  It was then played with by the grandchildren but is now redundant as they have grown out of it and husband now finds it difficult to get into the loft.

Not me but my OH has been doing the same for seveal years on and off. His is N guage which is very small (the usual one is OO and apparently the smallest gauge is Z). He does it in fits and starts, buys loads of stuff off Amazon but the board/set lives under the double bed in the spare room. It's a pain quite frankly and is a haven for spiders and places the cats like to explore.

Many thanks for all answers.

Omg21, we pretty much emptied our loft a couple of years ago as OH was struggling to get up there, it now houses some bat droppings, the original train set our youngest son had, a Lego electric train set, a giant Meccano set, and many, many spider families. The children can have the job of emptying what's left.

Prudie, OH has under bed plans for this, I think he's forgotten about the two travel cots plus extra mattresses, two collapsed high chairs, multiple duvets in plastic bags, a put you up bed, three guitars and a keyboard, plus random other stuff already housed there. It's keeping him busy though...
