39 tonnes to 44 tonnes

i am a hgv driver pulling a tri axle trailer plated at 39 tonnes with a twin axle unit the company are upgrading to a tri axle unit plated at 44 tonnes with the intention of using the same trailer i dont think they can do this am i right or is the company right

I think the plate on the trailer only shows the maximum weight per axle.

I can't be sure until I look at the plates on my 3 axle unit / 3 axle trailer rig tomorrow, but I think only the unit shows the maximum train weight.

You are ok on this Marvin, but If I can remember well the road tax is different for a 3x3. although there aren't many left now, a lot tried to use a 3x2 (Tandem trailer) with the Extra weight of 38tonns but the neck of the trailers were not strenghted, I found this out with the Comp I used to work for, also the trailers where not desighed to take that extra 6tonns.

My trailer is plated at 36.5 tonnes, which presumably is the maximum weight of the trailer alone when loaded - less than yours.

As I thought, it is only the unit which shows the maximum train weight.

Considering your unit probably weighs 7 or 8 tonnes, there is no way the trailer could be loaded to an all up weight of 39 tonnes and the whole rig be 44 tonnes.
