navman 635 - not holding a charge
just bough a secong hand sat nav...which works fine when plugged in but goes off completely when unplugged
i am assuming it should charge...or i is it a plugged in only model...anyone know...can see anything that says it actually charges anywhere
i would mind but the socket is a bit loose so it keeps disconnecting
thanks

my navan 300 charges from a usb socket and car socket, leave plugged in your usb while it switched off, it should in a while it show a image of a comp and sat nav with a link animated showing its being charge
if you go into prefences when its switched on you can get into a page that shows you how much power its got

thanks all... thats the problem there is no light or symbol to indicate its charging or any setting that i can find so far that indicates battery life...
id have thought you could charge it so you dont have to have a wire in it whil ein use...its a bit strange
if i secure it with blutac it holds but a bump in the road and it could go off... how annoyng
ill try the usb thing thouhg
i left it charging for about an hour so surely it should have registered some charge by then...the woman in the shop said it hadnt been used in years ...

hi deggers, yes i have both types of charger...and i charged it in my house for about an hour or so, but the second i picked it up, the connection moved and it went instantly dead....and it reset and went back to start up every time, so if it happens while im driving id have to stop and re set the destination etc!
i had a similar thing with my old stanav, but it was chargable so i only had to steady it in place for a while and itd be charged enough not to worry about the connection, but this it stupid
these things sold new for about £300-400! im amazed this fetaure appears not to be in it when my old on is just an old medion, and that does
mad
mayve be it just needs a good few hours charging, like 10 or something to 'wake it up' again as its not been used for years she said.

i know bednobs - i did say that it might be that in the question, but that link doesnt actually confirm it, just doesnt mention it at all, never heard of one not having battery, so thought id give one last try but i confirmed it elsewhere, but also people kept commenting so i thought id say that to close the thread
