Surprise surprise,

3 Days out of warranty (Vauxhall car) and a warning light appears on the dash!!!

Is this a common thing happening out there or am I just unlucky (or is there some clever programming in the car to enable garages to screw more money out of the motorist)??

"and a warning light appears on the dash!!! "

Care to elaborate? it might just be telling you to fill the windscreen washer bottle up.
What has gone wrong ? Sale of Goods Act usually gives you more protection than worthless warranties so you should be able to prevent the garage screwing you.

ABS warning light is on.

It was a general enquiry of the populace at large to see if it is commonplace for things to happen juat after warranty expires.
New or used car warranty ??
-- answer removed --
if something does fail just out of warranty you still have grounds for repair or replacement under the Consumer Goods Act...

It is deemed that an item of value... should last for a fair period of time... SO eg.. a £500 TV should last for more than 12 months....
A £50 toaster should work for more than 12 months etc

If its a new car just outside warranty.. the law would state that a fair priced car should run without problems for longer than the stated warranty...
If there is some default system for things after warranty, they put them in washing machines too!
not the link I was looking for but interesting all the same... Not sure if it applies to cars but worth bookmarking in case of broken toasters and tvs or fridges etc!!!
