Does anyone know how much more fuel you burn at 80mph as compared to 70mph?

Depends on the vehicle.

An astra, 52 plate. Did a trip to London (200 miles) at 80 where possible and seemed to use a lot of fuel.
Aerodynamic drag increases as the square of the speed so.
(80*80)/(70*70)=1.306
anything above 60 seems to use more fuel, if you drive a vehicle with a fuel computer it would show up. I have a Peugeot 207 diesel with one where it shows how many miles left in the tank of fuel, going through the long roadworks on the M1 (j13) at 50 mph it gains an extra 60+ miles per tank !!! exceed 65+ and the fuel drops ...80 mph and it drinks it....
If at 70 mph you get 50mpg then at 80mph you will get 50/1.306 =38.28mpg
If you are consistant you use less no matter what, its acceleration that really kills the fuel. As Chas says if you have a fuel consumption computer it shows how badly acceleration drinks up the fuel as does staying at 80mph going up a hill.
