I've not tried towing anything with a Connect myself but I used to work for a Ford dealership, delivering car parts with a Connect. They're quite nice to drive most of the time but simply putting something heavy in the back, such as a car engine or a barrel of oil, has a noticeable effect on the handling. I'd have been unhappy if my employer had asked me to tow anything substantial with it.

Although the manual may recommend not towing anything it is of course possible to tow with it. all the specs I can find relating to towing state the maximum train weight is 3040KG and the vehicle weight is 1935KG unloaded so you have the potential to tow a (braked) trailer of upto 1300KG with a totally empty van and 800KG with a fully loaded van. (and 695KG if it's an unbraked trailer)
