fine for driving in a bus lane...how can they tell?

ive been sent a fine for £30 for going in a bus lane

but just wondered how they got a photo? i mean its not speed activated cameras, and presumably busses travel through all the time...but what would have activated the camera?

are there sensors on the busses or something?

it was in the town centre and i remember tuning into a road not realising it was a bus lane area, but had no choice but to continue through it as backing out would have been dangerous...couldnt have turned either.
i wasnt just thinking i could drive wherever i wanted or anyhting.

its a fair fine i did do it.

er, do you drive a car that looks like a bus? If not, it's a big giveaway to any cameras aimed at the bus lane.

I've seen the Police peeping out from behind the hedge at a junction where there's a bus lane. They were stopping people for doing it there though.

More likely you were caught on CCTV if in a town centre.

Lots of Buses are fitted with cameras to try and capture footage of people driving in bus lanes. As they are travelling in them most of the time it is one of the easiest ways to capture images of other vehicles.

The cameras are usually mounted in the windscreen and capture an image of the road/vehicles ahead. Some are video and some are set to take stills at set intervals, all stored on hard drive and downloaded each time the vehicle goes into the depot.

yes postdog, but i meant unless they hire someone to watch the footage all day long, how would the camera know to take a pic at that moment...? what are the sensors? what do they track? movement, colour, size?

because taxis are just cars too...

but sounds most likely cctv or a driver...

My understanding is that the cameras simply use number plate recognition systems. Similar to the congestion zone.
It simply knows what the vehicle is from the registration mark.
In this way they could charge less for pink cars over three years old with two doors if they wanted.
