engine starter Audi A3 1.9 TDI

Car will not start. Battery is OK, alternator as well. It dsweems if doesn't have the power to start up. However if I leave the key in and hold it down to start it seems like is dead. No noise that the starter is working at all. Could this be or is anything other I need to check

Faulty earth connection between battery and/or engine block? Only guessing but check it out anyway. Good luck.
