This is a boat engine problem, the engine is a volvo-penta 431A (AQ205) V6 4.3L.

Last time out was end of last year in October when everything was OK.

The problem is I took it out for it's first run this year over Easter and couldn't get past 2000rpm, it just kept cutting out. Seemed fine while idling at 1000 - 1500rpm. Just wouldn't accelerate. What's wrong, any ideas out there.

Damp, electrics, fuel. ?

mdoo98 thanks, this is what it is sounding like. I have asked a few boating friends and they are all saying water in the fuel. There was fuel left in the tank at the end of last season so I will drain the system and start again with fresh.

mdoo98, Hi, thanks for your advice. I had a look yesterday and cleaned the contacts in the distributor, plug leads etc and found them to be quite clean. I have put some fuel preserver in the tank along with some Dry Gas which absorbs moisture in the fuel. I then removed the water seperator/filter and it was absolutely disgustingly filthy, looks like it hadn't been serviced for years ( Only had the boat for a year ). New filter now on order from boat yard stores. Hopefully that will do the trick.
