My friend has just had their car in for a service, MOT, 2 new tyres, brake pads and discs. Not at a main dealer but a well known chain of garages. They were charged £890! Fair or ripped off?
What car was it? was it a major service, how many miles had the car done. did the garage do other work to get the car through the mot? £54.85 is the real price of a mot, how much did the garage cost?
The suggested (maximum) price for an MOT is £54.85, some garages will do it cheaper though, think I paid £45 for my last one (but that did include collecting the car from work and returning it)
Right it's my friends OH's car, a saab saloon. Charlie Browns garage, think they are part of Kwik Fit actually. (well I has my tyres done at KF and booked online and had the option to go there anyway) I dont know about mileage, not even sure how old car is but he has only had it about a year. Not much help I know, just wanted opinions on price as I wouldnt have bloody paid it lol.
What puts the price up is where the driver is too lazy to get his pads changed soon enough. This results in metal against metal and scores the discs. A scored disc will ruin any future brake pad so they have to be changed also. You get a warning when this is happening as you hear a distinctive ear splitting screech and is probably too late. The bill for these runs into hundreds.
Saabs arent cheap as i had 1, but i deffo wont pay that much for that little amount of work done on my car, i had the cam belt and other belts and a service done in my local garage and it was a lot cheaper that what you put on here.
