i have just bought a brand new subaru wrx sti through an importer. it was sold with 3 years manufacturer's warrenty.

however, i didn't realise that the onus is on me to get the warrenty set up with subaru uk. so far they are being a bit vague and uncommitting about things. they insist upon seeing a service book, which i haven't got, and a receipt of purchase by the importer i bought the car from.

has anyone else bought one of these european imports from anywhere and had these problems with manufacturers warrenty?

any good suggestions?

I bought the same a couple of years ago, luckily I have not had to use the warranty so far, however I got a service book and I contacted Subaru UK who are no help but eventually got a letter from them confirming waranty etc. They reserve the right to pay for any replacements up front, what they say is that you pay for them up front then claim the money back from whichever country, so if the car was imported from Belgium you have to go through them. But I think alot of it is down to the dealer as they may wait for payment rather than charge you upfront. Getting rid of car anyway now sick of people trying to steal it.
