Why does the windscreen wash and water mix begin to smell foul after a while.

When I squirt my windows the whole car stinks!

It's happened to me. I just added a bit of bleach to the screen wash. Problem solved.

(PS: I hope that you've not upset anyone at your local garage. Peeing in the screen wash bottle, to later produce the 'old tramp' smell which you seem to have encountered, is a well-known trick!)

this happened to me took it to my Citreon garage they said keep squirting until all the liquid gone, in fact they did that for me and then put in fresh windscreen wash, you have to get rid of the old stuff dont mix old with new or that will smell too, the smell was unbelievable.Hasnt happened since., but now I use their recommended screen wash not a cheaper version as before.
My stepdad used to add lemon juice to his windscreen wash - don't know if it made any difference and I don't fancy trying it!
Yes, it has gone moudly, or full of bacteria. You have been economising too much on screen wash solution.

Stick a hose in to flood all the old stuff out, and dose it with bleach.

Flush it out again then add a strong solution of fresh screen wash.

I wondered why the screenwash was green!
Drop a Steradent or similar false teeth cleaning tablet in the washer bottle. It will kill all the bugs and freshen things up. Works a treat.
