After a longish time of having a "flat" battery, my friend's 2000 Xsara will not start. The suspicion is that the ignition key (its own original) needs to be matched up again. Anyone know a way to do this easily/cheaply? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's a 2.0L diesel, Xsara Exclusive Hdi. Yes, I meant the car battery itself ("under the bonnet"). No spare.
