Hmmm... I don't know a great deal about Automatics.  I would check the auto oil level first and make sure it's not really low.  If it's okay then I would considering changing it as a cheap option.  If it's still no good then it might be a faulty torque converter.  You may have to take it to a VW garage or specialist.

In any case it might be worth seeing your VW dealer and just explain the problem to them.  It might be a common fault and talking doesn't cost anything! 

Hope it's not too expensive!

'changing it' was meant to refer to the auto oil being changed! (auto oil is very thin, but gets even thinner when hot)
