Hi guys,

Recently I have found when I press on the accelerator, the fan under the windscreen appears to come on inside the car. It only lasts as long as my foot is down.

Does anyone know what that could be? Also would it be expensive to fix?

appears to come on ?

you hear it or just feel the cool/warm air rising >?

it maybe that you have the vents set to open so any air hitting the front of your car comes through to the inside , when depressing the accelerator ( speeding along ) you increase air pressure and feel the extra air..

another option could be you have the fan on already , but while your engine is at low speeds the power is low. so when you speed up teh engine the power increases so you feel the fan air more . this can be illustrated by putting lights on and letting the car idle , then depressing the accelorator will show a strong light beam.

the only possible other option i could think of " however this would be unusual side effect " is a bad earth somewhere.. this could cause power to be re- routed via your fan to its earth point . however i must state is ould be extremely unlikely..

Hi S_C

Yes, I hear it come on as if it's blowing air. But no air comes out at all.

As I said, it's only when I press on the accelerator. When I ease off, I no longer hear it.
With no air at all coming out . i am left with the question , are you sure its the heater fan thats coming on ?

i would suggest that you take your car to a garage and ask them to identify the noise and possible cause. this would at least will take away the guess work and they could quote you for any repair if need.

as it is im left wondering if your car is a turbo, petrol or diesel , if the window is open or closed when hearing this sound, stood or moving.
you seem to think the noise from the interior of the car
behind the dashboard. However with the windows shut and the car moving the noise could easily be coming from the engine compartment and mearly sounds like it is behind dash.
better to get it identified than continue guessing.

Most small garages will take a few minuets to answer this question in the hope of recieving the job to repair it.
